Joe Huerter
Joe is a trial lawyer, handling a wide variety of litigation. Joe represents people injured in
automobile and other types of accidents. Joe's also practice is in the area of family law,
including divorce, separate maintenance, and annulment. He also handles child custody,
visitation, child support and paternity actions and adoptions. Joe spent seven years on the
Shawnee County guardian ad litem panel for juvenile court and still regularly handles child in
need of care cases, including child abuse and neglect matters. Joe often handles
grandparent custody and visitation matters. Additionally, Joe represents individuals in SRS
appeals. Joe handles most criminal matters, including homicide, drug sales and possession,
d.u.i. and most other felony, misdemeanor and traffic cases, including juvenile court matters.
Several years ago, Joe served on the Topeka-Shawnee County Metropolitan Planning Commission
and chaired a committee that wrote the first combined city and county zoning code. He has handled
zoning and platting cases and drafted zoning regulations. Joe also handles the defense of zoning
violation notices. Joe drafts wills and trusts and sets up guardianships and conservatorships.
He also handles a variety of civil suits.
